In the arts, there’s a grand tradition of working artists sharing their techniques and methods to help those who come after them. In the early days of the Internet, this tradition flourished on Usenet, a collection of message forums organized by subject.

Andrew Werby, the proprietor of this site, was most active in the sculpture forum (alt.sculpture), the fine arts forum (rec.arts.fine) and in the artists community forum (alt.artcom), but also spent time in the the jeweler’s forum (rec.crafts.jewelry) and the ceramics forum (rec.crafts.pottery) among others. Some of the advice written on Usenet by him and by others (with their permission, of course) have been archived here. Surprisingly, very little of the advice has been harmed by the passage of time — it’s still mostly as relevant as ever!
